Chandrabhedan Pranayam- How to do this pranayam
Chandrabhedan Pranayam :
In Chandrabhedan prnayam, breathing action is totally opposite to that of suryabhedan pranayam.
In Chandrabhedan Pranayam, the action of breathing always starts with left nostril. In Shastras, the left nostril is called as chandranadi or Idanadi or strinadi. The word "Chandra" is stands for the moon and the meaning of bhedan is piercing, enter or breaking through something etc. and it is also known as chandra bhedi pranayam. We have two nostrils for breathing in yogic term these two nostrils are called nadi Right nostril is surya nadi nd left nostril is known as chandra nadi.there is another name for this ida nadi and pingla nadi.
Chandra Bhedana Pranayama is the simple and effective breathing technique. moon is the symbol of coolness, so by doing this pranayam we feel some coolness in our body. Best and effetive breathing process for cooling down the body. In this breathing exercise breathe in is done by the left nadi and we breathe out through the right nadi or right nostril.

- Chanadrabhedan Pranayam Method :
- Sit in siddhasan, padmasana or sukhasana position. keep the left hand on the left knee in gyanmundra.
- Perform Pranav Mudra with right hand and close right nostril i.e. suryabhedi with the thumb and inhale completely with left nostril.
- Perform Jalandhar bandh and have antahakumbhak. With hold the breath as per the tolerance capacity.
- Then, release the jalandhar bandh and keeping the left nostril closed, enhale the breath completely through the right nostril.
- Repetitions :
In the beginning one can do 12 repetitions. Gradually one cane reach up to 36 repetitions.
- Benefits :
- the muscles of the head get rest.
- The diseases of acidity and those of the nostril get rid-of. The unnecessary heat of body is removed.
- For high blood pressure patients this is the best pranayam.
- The vices like fear and weakness temperaments disappear.
- Makes on individual peace minded, Compromising and practical.
- It takes the pran tattva up to sushumna nadi and becomes helpful to awake the power of kundalini.
- Traditional, surya bhedana is said to stimulate the brain and increase body heat.
- Chandra bhedana is n't usually listed among formal pranyms in traditional texts but it's reasonable to assume that its effects are opposite that of surya bhedana it quiets the brain and cools the body.
